Clinical trials and research

Johnston-Willis can provide you access to more clinical trials than any other cancer care facility in Virginia. Our partnership with Sarah Cannon—as well as numerous surgical oncology companies—gives Johnston-Willis oncology patients access to clinical trials, which offer more innovative ways to cure cancer and reduce the effects of cancer treatment. Ask your doctor about qualifying for clinical trials and research.

Preoperative education and classes

We offer preoperative classes to help you prepare for what to expect before, during and after cancer surgery.

Cancer support groups

Talking with other patients and families experiencing the same cancer diagnosis as you and your family is helpful throughout your cancer journey. At Johnston-Willis, we can connect you with specific support groups, such as groups that focus on gastrointestinal cancer, breast cancer, caregiving or bereavement. Ask us about Spanish-speaking support groups.

Registered dietitian services

Nutrition can play an important role in your fight against cancer. Whether you are newly diagnosed or are adjusting to life after cancer, our registered dietitian can help you find the foods that are right for you wherever you are in your cancer journey. Our dietitian has an office on-site and is available for individual consultations to all patients, free of charge.

To contact our registered dietitian, please call (804) 483-6047.

Supportive counseling

It is normal to feel overwhelmed and confused after receiving a cancer diagnosis. There are treatment options to understand and medical decisions to be made. Living with cancer is trying, and life after cancer can still be challenging. Supportive counseling can help both patients and their families through all stages of the cancer journey.
